Sells Middle School (left) is a school in Dublin that was named after John Sells. Back in the early 1800's, John got a gift from his two brothers: 400 acres of land along the Scioto River. Not long after, John built a tavern in which he lived in (The Black Horse Tavern). Soon enough, John Sells asked John Shields-a surveyor from Ireland-to survey John Sells' tract into 200 lots. John Sells gave the honor of naming his town to John Shields, who said, "If I have the honor conferred upon me to name your village, with the brightness of the morn, and the beaming of the sun on the hills and dales surrounding this beautiful valley, it would give me great pleasure to name your new town after my birthplace, Dublin, Ireland." Soon after, John Sells opened a hat factory.
